The Pumping Station Halloween 2016

29Oct2016

The Pumping Station has only been investigated once before with very interesting results. Very few records exist in the archives so we are keen to repeat an investigation at this location to corroborate the earlier findings.

You will be part of our crew for the evening as we employ a variety of investigation techniques both old and new, you will be invited to take part in experiments as we attempt to uncover the shadowy untold story of this unusual victorian location.

Join the 7th Sense Paranormal Crew as They Talk... We Listen... at The Pumping Station.

The building has a characterful architectural treatment with elaborate decorative stone dressings and a tall, panelled chimney stack to the rear. The front of the building is particularly effective and gives the building the appearance of a small, decorative Non-conformist Victorian style Chapel. The station was built circa 1900 to house two massive steam-driven beam engines. Opening in January 1901 the two beam engines were built in-situ by Renshaws of Stoke in 1897/1898. The coal-fired boilers drove the beam engines that operated the pumps until 1970. Restoration began in 1990 and the station is now open as an industrial museum.

The Museum comprises the Pumping Station buildings, which are listed with English Heritage as being of architectural importance, and in-situ beam-engines plus other items of interest. The building, machinery and grounds are preserved to ensure the history and heritage are available for all to see.
